Am I a different person in English?

My wonderful colleague Lindsey and I decided to start an experiment.

In our new podcast on YouTube, we discussed the way different languages shape our personalities:

If you haven't ever heard me speaking English — now it's your chance to judge — do I come across to you as a different person?

Do foreign languages actually change the way we think about ourselves, or are they rather an add-on that reveals a new part of ourselves?

Let's see:

Please write us in the comments below:

What languages do you speak? And how do they have shaped you? What part of your life do you associate with them?

Let us know about your language experience.

P.S. And yes! We've expanded GermanSkills into helping people strengthen their English skills as well. If you are curious about how we can help you with that, use the form below to schedule a short appointment. We are happy to talk to you about your English/ German potential.

I found this video very interesting and inspiring. Thank you for making it and sharing it.

I come from Sardinia: Italian is my first language, and I studied English and German. I think that each language is the reflection of a specific culture and of a specific way to see and live the world. I like the metaphore about music. I would add that speaking a foreign language is like acting, like playing a role. Learning a new language and immersing myself in a different culture, I can live experiences and learn things that I would have never learnt otherwise.
